One thing about good weather means I go totally MIA.  Don’t worry if I disappear into the sunshine! Saturday morning I woke up super early to take my car in for routine maintenance.  I made some coffee and grabbed a PB Fiber One bar for the road.

After hanging around the car dealership for a few hours, I left with my clean & healthy baby and headed straight to the beach. Driving down to the water made me SO HAPPY! I love the gorgeous sun. I grabbed breakfast part 2 from Noah’s Bagels. For some reason, food tastes so much better on the beach :)

I pulled up and scored a free parking space without any searching — sweet! I was greeted by this sight for sore eyes.

I trekked down to the water and found a great spot. The beach was pretty empty, which I love :)

I got a nice cold diet Pepsi to sip in the sun.

Along with a great bagel sandwich with light cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, lox and capers on a whole grain seedy bagel.

I ate both halves (duh), followed later in the day by a pickle and a few pieces of fruit.

After finishing The Alchemist and reading some health magazines, I realized that despite all my sunscreen, I was getting major sun. And burn! My splotchy red self and I headed back Weho. Look what I found on the way home…I used to LOVE this movie growing up!

Since I missed out on free Pinkberry Friday, I decided to grab some for a late lunch (??). My meals were so off schedule! I ended up with a medium coconut (YUM!) topped with mango, bing cherries, and chocolate chips. Of course, they only put about 5 pieces of fruit in the cup, so I brought it home and added some of my own :)

I also threw some veggies on a plate topped with salsa. I had a late dinner planned with the girls and didn’t want to be starving by the time we got to the restaurant.

These snacks held me over until dinner at 9. The three Kates and Marissa hit up Julia’s restaurant where she was managing for the night. We started with champagne mixed with fresh pureed watermelon. So light and refreshing!

Julia sent over the infamous Newsroom grilled artichoke while we were deliberating over the menu. Actually, I was really the only one who didn’t know what to get; I’m so indecisive!!

Finally I ordered one of Julia’s favorites, jerk chicken on flatbread with lettuce, tomatoes and avocado. I skipped the sauce on the side but ate all the salad and 3/4 of the sandwich. The chicken was delicious!

We drank cantaloupe martinis with dinner. All the Newsroom drinks have freshly juiced fruit which makes such a huge difference in taste!

The four of us chilled with our drinks and food while Julia closed down the restaurant. We made sure she got a few sips though :)

The bartender was trying his hand at inventing some shots, so he brought over two rounds to taste test with us!  Then Julia came across an open bottle of wine that she sent over to the table. Waste not! I only drank a sip or two though. We all swore up and down that we weren’t even a lil bit tipsy at this point, but for some reason I’m thinking we were wrong about that…

As if Julia/the bartender/the chefs hadn’t spoiled us enough, they sent over a flourless chocolate cake. No words!!!

Once the restaurant was closed down & locked up, the five of us hit the road. One of my coworkers was throwing a “Halfway to New Year’s” party at a Mexican-themed restaurant (creatively named “Mexico”). I skipped drinking at this bar in favor of dancing! The DJ played tons of MJ and other old school tunes, so we totally rocked out. We even got a cute (and sweaty) group shot.

My computer is being a huge creeper right now and going so slowly, so you guys will have to wait to see the rest of my exciting weekend and somewhat less exciting Monday. Hope y’all had a great kickoff!

Happy weekend everyone! The sun is finally shining, which makes me SO HAPPY! Friday morning I enjoyed the usual, except with blueberry yogurt since the store was out of my favorite vanilla.

Since both my bosses were gone for the day, I made sure to take a long and leisurely lunch. I started with some mango and kiwi.

Then I headed outside with The Alchemist and read for a bit in the sunshine. I even treated myself to a chocolate/vanilla swirl froyo with chocolate sprinkles. The place right near my office has a size called “Baby” that’s perfect when you are looking for a just a little taste!

The rest of the day was pretty busy — I even had to stay late! I know, on a Friday, what’s up with that?! I think my long relaxing lunch was definitely worth it though. On the way to the gym, I munched on some cinnapple cubes. I had half before doing some light elliptical for 40 minutes and the rest on the way to the grocery store where I picked up some ingredients for a special dessert :)

Back home, I whipped up some half whole wheat/half white flour dough for pizza! As usual, I used 1/3 to make a thin crust veggie pizza with tomato sauce, cheese, basil, red onion, red pepper, and mushroom. It was delicious, no big surprise!

After some lounging and TV watching, I made dessert! Inspired by the great strawberries I picked up at the Farmer’s Market, I started with some biscuits…

…which turned into strawberry shortcake! Bisquick single packets make these a breeze. You just add water and 10 minutes later you have 150 cal biscuits that are perfect for shortcakes!

Wow, it’s been a crazy two days! Wednesday morning I had the usual yogurt mess, which was delicious as always.

The day was taken up by some PR drama with a cap D! One of our clients got some unexpected uncontrolled unplanned (but not bad!!) coverage on Perez, MTV, Entertainment Tonight…so it was a busy morning. Lunch was a frozen Kashi meal I’ve been wanting to try — Lemongrass Coconut Chicken.  Not going to lie, it was the coconut flakes that caught my eye!

Around 2, I ended up eating some fruit (mango, kiwi, cinnapple) while heading over the hill to help smooth over another sitch and found myself at Kendra’s bachelorette party (yes, from The Girls Next Door). Only in LA, huh?? All the girls were sweet and cute as buttons!

Since I was already in the Valley, I headed over to Kate’s house for dinner. She and her boys had already eaten, so I snagged a few bites of her amazing pasta before eating myself.  Kate gave me a list of every food under the sun and then I got to customize my own meal. And she cooked it for me!! I love cooking, but it’s so amazing to kick back with a glass of wine while someone else makes you a plate of delicious food, right?! Now presenting dinner by KJ — here’s a face to match with the name…imagine THIS zen lady standing over the stove instead of coasting down an air slide and that’s the scene.

Hi guys!  This is Katie Jo.  Tonight dinner was on me because Tates was stressed and needed a girls night.  We opened a bottle of red wine I’d been saving and watched trashy television. On the menu was pasta with tomatoes, bell peppers, garlic, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, and mushrooms all sauteed together.  On the side we had baked chicken in a homemade marinade and a couple slices of fresh kalamata bread.  It was a fun night of cooking and girl talk that we topped off with a quick stop at Pinkberry.

Kate’s boyfriend snapped the photos of my dinner.  Yup, literally didn’t have to do anything for this meal but eat it!

We debated going to Aroma for dessert but I haven’t had the pink in so long! I got an original tart and pomegranate swirl topped with mini chocolate chips, blackberries and blueberries. I couldn’t get a good photo so I finally gave up to eat this goodness :)

I got home and passed out so hard! I woke up this morning still exhausted for whatever reason. My yogurt mess was good but didn’t do much to energize me. Too bad I don’t have any of that caffeine granola!!

All the events from Wednesday carried over and the day was pretty crazy again. I managed to squeeze in a yummy veggie-overload Lean Cuisine ravioli bowl for lunch.

I also was able to swing by the Farmers’ Market to get some fresh veggies.  My fridge is thanking me right now!!  Late afternoon, we celebrated my boss’s birthday with a big cake. I am not the hugest fan of white cake, but I do love icing so I had a few bites. After working late, I went home for an early-ish dinner.  I snacked on a few hummus dipped green beans while cooking.

I used some of my FM veggies to make a bowl with red peppers, onions, eggplant, chicken, zucchini, and 4 mini potato pierogies.

Dessert was the usual Skinny Cow. Imagine this one but dipped in rainbow sprinkles for some outer layer crunch! Genius.

Afternoon pick-me-up! I was never allowed to have soda as a kid, but my mom always drank Diet Dr Pepper, so this reminds me of her :)

I should have eaten a real snack though because I ended up going to happy hour with one of the girls from work.  A glass of white wine on a pretty empty belly turned into a small flour tortilla, a chicken skewer and WAY too many chips with guacamole. At least we didn’t get a second basket…that’s good, right?

Of course, the whole point of happy hour is ending the night early, which made it feel like I still had time to hit the gym.  I did 30 minutes of intervals on the elliptical before my tummy started reminding me it hadn’t quite digested and said no thanks!  I left to grab some groceries for the rest of the week and came home find the kitten peed in my bed. Again.  So right now I am decompressing with The Office.

I am king of forwards. It’s how I like to do business. I am Chandler. And Joey. And Pam is Rachel. And Dwight is Kramer.

Ah Michael Scott, you are priceless.

Ah Monday! Today I tried the “fake it to make it” trick and it really worked! I left work with a big smile on my face and ready for a fun night. Oh yeah, the other trick to a good Monday — making plans for a relaxing night :)

The day started with an exceptionally good yogurt mess, packed with frozen blueberries, frozen mango, bananas, strawberries and cereal.

We had our regular Monday morning meeting, which is never fun. It does move the day along pretty quickly though. For lunch I had a side salad of broccoli slaw and mushrooms topped with a lil balsamic vinaigrette.

I also had a La Tortilla turkey wrap with Popchips on the side.  The turkey was on its last leg (ick) but it did the trick.  This meal holds me over like WHOA.

After lunch I took a nice little walk to get some fresh air. It might be chillayy but at least that sun is shinin!!  I got snacky around 4 but decided to just save my appetite for dinner. It was a multi-course meal — my favorite kind!  I started with a little bit of Honey Moon.

My roomie was inspired by her trip home to make some Hmong cuisine.  Apparently St. Paul has one of the largest (if not THE largest) urban Hmong populations in the WORLD so restaurants there are aplenty.  LA however doesn’t seem to have any Hmong restaurants (if you know otherwise, let me know, Julia will be so happy!) so she decided to whip up some on her own.  And graciously share with me of course! While she was cooking, I nibbled on a few carrots and broccoli florets dipped in spicy chipotle hummus.

Julia’s dish contained lean pork, veggies, garlic, EVOO, lemongrass and lots of spice…jalapenos and chile paste! My mouth was on FIRE. It was amazing :)

Right now we are watching Nurse Jackie and I am contemplating a Skinny Cow to finish off the night. Can you picture it? Probably — here’s a gratuitous shot anyway :)

Will the weather ever get summery?! I woke up Saturday morning to MORE CLOUDS and decided a batch of blueberry pancakes were in order. I used 1/2 cup whole wheat mix, 1/4 cup Maine bloobs, 1/4 cup egg beaters, some H2O and 1 tbsp maple syrup to make this plate. They were really thin but good!

Thanks to the icky day outside, I spent much of the day cleaning, reading, and watching TV. I took a break around 11 AM to hit the gym for 45 minutes on the elliptical. My ankle has been bothering me the last few days, and this is the only way I can workout without really aggravating it! Followed by grocery shopping, I got home pretty hungry for lunch and pulled out some of my purchases to make a chile lime chicken burger topped with pickles and grilled onions and sweet potato fries.

After lazing around all day, I was motivated to get out of the apt and met Kate W for a late dinner at Yatai.  She just moved back to LA and has never been to our favorite sushi spot, so I had to introduce her! I started with a berry beer and some shared edamame. For our main meal, we split some favorites. Sorry for the recycled pictures!

I half passed out awkwardly on the couch and roused myself at 2 AM to get into bed. Then today I woke up around 8 to more clouds.  Boo!  For breakfast I went back to basics with my regular yogurt mess. Lots of fresh and frozen fruit — it was delicious!

Even thought it wasn’t hot, I decided to make the most of the blue skies and headed down to the beach to read on the sand. It was incredibly windy but I was so happy to finally be outside :)

I also got to swing by Panera, meaning bread and black bean soup on the beach…

This weekend flew by in a minute!! I can’t believe it’s almost Monday already.  I think I have another crazy week coming up but hopefully I can squeeze some fun stuff in there too.  Right now I am just bumming around before going to the airport to pick up Julia. She has been in MN all week and I’m so glad she’s almost home!! Her flight gets in 11:30ish so I will probably try to get to bed after that :)

Thursday morning I woke up extra early to get to the doctor’s office.  Since it’s Friday night now and I am having a relaxing evening & don’t want to harp on it, let’s just say it was not a great morning. One big shot in the arm later, I headed off to work with 2 slices of Newsroom bread heels topped with Better N’ Peanut Butter and cherry jelly.

Thursday was a pretty rough day at work. Things have been a little intense lately. I need to figure out how to go there with an attitude adjustment so I’m not so stressed out!  Luckily I had a movie date with Katie Jo and India. Dinner was pretty random…I started with more acorn squash,

Junior Mints are my favorite movie candy! I haven’t had a box of these in so long! We ended up seeing Angels & Demons, which wasn’t anything amazing but I love movie theaters in general, so I was happy :)

This morning I woke up early and got to work before the day officially started, giving me some time with breakfast and Reader.  The usual yogurt mess, with a whole banana today since I mostly had Kashi dust left in the box.

I have been insanely snacky the last two days! I was full the rest of the afternoon but wanted to munch and crunch anyway. Luckily I packed a cinnapple, which kept me from buying froyo or a chocolate bar!

I ate this while watching The Heartbreaker. Pretty hoaky but some funny parts too! Ah, it’s so nice having a relaxing night with nothing to worry about tomorrow. Still coming up with plans for Saturday night; anyone doing anything super exciting??

I finished off the last of the PB Puffins in my yogurt mess today. Why are these so darn addictive??

For lunch today, I made a turkey wrap on a La Tortilla Factory tortilla with some TJ tomato & basil hummus and red cabbage. A somewhat strange but very filling combo! Paired with a mango and a few pieces of fruit from the office spread, this meal held me over almost until the end of the day.

Right before leaving for the day, I dug into my cinnapple from yesterday. You know how people suggest adding lemon to keep a cut apple fresh? It seems like cinnamon does the same thing! I diced this apple Tuesday early morning and ate it Wednesday afternoon and it was still crisp and not browned at all.

After work I decided to go for a hike instead of going to the gym. The sun was FINALLY out, even though it wasn’t hot. The cool air is much better for the hike though! I did a light jog on the way back down the canyon…makes the trip downhill so fast :)

Dinner was inspired by Julia’s new plates. Aren’t these cute??

I went Italian-style with a serving of TJ breaded eggplant topped with sauce and a little light cheese & a side of shirataki noodles with sauce, mushrooms, red onion and basil. The eggplant was SO GOOD as usual.  Pasta probably would have tasted better; I only really like these noodles in stir fry I think. But it left lots of room for dessert!

Three Things for Wednesday

  1. Brought chips to eat with lunch but skipped them
  2. Tacked on an extra bit to my hike
  3. Made shirataki noodles instead of pasta for dinner

Earlier I was talking to my girl over at What Do I Eat Now? about temptation at the office. I realized that today we were stocked with muffins, brownies, fruit, cheese & crackers, jellybeans, chocolate, tootsie rolls, laffy taffy, runts, swedish fish and sour patch kids. That kind of spread is pretty typical! For the most part, I just avoid it all because once I start, it can be hard to stop! Does anyone else have lots of food temptations at work? How do you keep from just snacking all day long?

Waking up without any yogurt in the fridge, I made a quick stop at Whole Foods on the way to the office and treated myself to a vanilla Oikos!

We had a few meetings at the office today, which meant lots of muffins, brownies…and Sprinkles cupcakes from yesterday! I stuck to the fruit though; it was so fresh and delicious! The pineapple was bomb.

For lunch I had a Lean Cuisine pizza and some mixed veggies on the side. Nothing that exciting but I was too tired last night to make something!

Later in the afternoon, I snacked on more fruit and a piece of PB roll-up, which is basically a tortilla spread with PB and craisins/raisins and rolled up and diced into spirals. This was a perfect fuel for my workout.  These roll-ups are a favorite in our office :)

After dinner, I headed over the hill to pick up a Father’s Day present for my dad. For some reason, the Best Buy near my house AND the Best Buy near my office didn’t have it in stock. On the way out, I hit the gym in the Valley. The parking lot was a total zoo! I drove around for 15 minutes before deciding to call it quits and as I was leaving, a spot opened up. YAY! I did 50 minutes of intervals on the elliptical. After the gym, I made a quick stop at Aroma to get dinner to-go. I switched up my usual wild rice tofu salad for the tofu rice bowl. Big changes, I know :)

I love this restaurant! I don’t get to go very often because it’s totally out of the way, but the place is so cute.  My dinner contained wild rice, marinated tofu, broccoli, scallions, serrano chilis, and roasted bell peppers. Look at this beaut!! IT WAS HUGE!

As soon as I got back to the car, I dug in! I ate about 1/6, then another 1/6 after I went to Best Buy (side note, is it weird that I ate twice in parking lots? Hmm…). The last 1/6 I ate after I went grocery shopping and got home. Now I still have half for another meal. What a deal!

My lunch is planned, the groceries are unpacked, True Blood is all cued up and I have a Skinny Cow in hand. I picked up more mint ones tonight, along with Cookies N’ Cream!!!

Three Things for Tuesday

  1. Passed on Sprinkles cupcakes again
  2. Snacked on fruit and skipped the muffins
  3. Saved half my big dinner for another meal

Staying up late watching True Blood on Saturday left me exhausted I guess because I slept until 10:30 AM on Sunday!!! People, this is a major accomplishment and basically unheard of…usually I wake up by 8:30 on the weekends and consider that an extra two hours, so 10:30 was great. Guess I needed it! I decided to whip up some pancakes again just because it was the weekend and I could! I used 1/2 cup of the whole wheat mixture and added in 1/4 cup of those baby Maine blueberries from Trader Joe’s.  Topped with 1/2 banana and 1 tbsp vanilla bean maple syrup, these were delicious! (Still think I liked Saturday’s chocolate pancakes best though!!)

I basically did nothing Sunday and was insanely lazy. I always have a huge list of things to get done over the weekend but I am so busy during the week that my body and mind just craves relaxation! The kittens and I cuddled on the couch and watched more True Blood.

I decided to use some homemade whole wheat pizza dough to make my late lunch. I rolled the dough out pretty thin and topped it with tomato sauce, light cheese, zucchini, mushrooms, green peppers, vidalia onion and fresh basil. It was really delicious!

I also got into some unnecessary snacks…an un-pictured Skinny Cow and some Puffins. We are definitely breaking up again when I am through with this box. Willpower = out the window!! Meanwhile, the kitten babies moved on from me and snuggled together. How cute are they??

Courtney came over for dinner and to watch He’s Just Not That Into You with me and Jules. I took over in the kitchen and made whole wheat pasta with tomato sauce and fresh basil, chile lime chicken burgers and roasted eggplant and zucchini to eat while watching the movie. This meal was so quick and easy to make and tasted great!

I thought the movie was really cute and fun. I am such a sucker for any chick flick basically. Court brought over cocoa meringues and brownie bites from Whole Foods for dessert. The meringues were good but the brownie bites were amazing! Between the three of us, we ate almost the whole container. Too bad I didn’t check until AFTER eating them that the brownies are almost 100 calories each!!!!! No wonder my belly was stuffed beyond belief by the end of the movie.

Lunch was somewhat boring but good, just a bowl of Progresso minestrone soup. I didn’t have anything packed when I was running out the door, but am glad that I grabbed this so I didn’t have to spend money or calories on ordering food.

Instead, I got the same sweet treat as Friday, my favorite no-sugar added light half mocha half vanilla ice blended from the Bean. MMM!

After work, I got an early start on dinner with a Newsroom 9 Grain bread heel topped with a schmear of Better N’ Peanut Butter and some cherry jelly. I was just too hungry to wait!

Even though the toast kept me full for another hour or so, I was still craving CARBS and debated mashed potatoes and pancakes but decided on continuing the breakfast theme with an omelet. I used 1/2 cup egg beaters, vidalia onion, basil and mushrooms, with red pepper slices on the side. The breakfast theme let me have another bread heel with jelly on the side :)

Then Julia and I headed out to a BBQ restaurant to meet some guys from her work for a drink.  I had a glass of Pinot while we chatted away. Knowing the bartender meant we got a nice free top off! I avoided eating any of the fries, but did steal Julia’s pickle! It was nice getting out and having some entertaining convo after a long day at the office. Jules is leaving tomorrow for MN and I just wanted to soak up my Julia time!!! I am going to miss her!!!

Long story, but around 11 PM we headed to Santa Monica to scope out parking spaces for Julia to leave her car for the week. We just walked back in the door (it’s 12:30 now) and I can tell that my blood sugar has seriously hit rock bottom because I am being a total crank yanker and am about to make a bowl of instant oatmeal. Instead of taking/uploading a boring picture of that, I leave you with this…

…the video Fight From Above debuted Friday night! Pretty awesome, right?! Don’t the boys sound great?? I am the one in the red plaid/sunglasses at the party and then the leather jacket/bangs at the end in case you couldn’t pick me out. Yes, lighting up…for artistic effect you guys!!

  1. Made sure to measure out portion sizes for everything I cooked for breakfast,
  2. lunch, and
  3. dinner.

Three Things for Monday

  1. Passed up the Sprinkles cupcakes in the office (my work enjoys torturing me)
  2. Brought lunch instead of buying
  3. Ate dinner before going out to the BBQ place
