I can’t believe I leave tonight for my four day weekend! I’m so excited! Monday morning it felt weird getting back to the grind. I was tired and cranky and even my Tupperware of glorious messy yogurt couldn’t cheer me up.

CIMG6009

After a somewhat stinky morning, I dug into a bowl of “leftovers.” Doesn’t look familiar? When I made my omelet Sunday night, I cooked extra eggplant, mushrooms and onions and put them to the side.  I also made a serving of pasta with my little 1/4 cup.  Plus the addition of an Amy’s veggie burger nuked at the office and voila! “Leftovers.” It was actually really good!

CIMG6011

I also brought some mixed veggies which worked great as an afternoon snack.

CIMG6012

After a somewhat long and uneventful day, I headed home to eat an early dinner before meeting Courtney at the movies! Not in the mood for anything in particular, I started with 1/2 cup of salted edamame.

CIMG6013

Followed by one of the TJ veggie eggrolls.

CIMG6015

And finished off with a little dessert — ice cream! My bowl actually was this size this time :)

CIMG6006

After dinner, Courtney and I met at the Grove to see My Sister’s Keeper. Thank goodness I brought us some tissues because I cried like a baby throughout the movie. I think my contacts were crusty with salt when we left. Gross, but true. Courtsie had never read the book before so I got to tell her about the real ending.  We both agreed that the screenplay probably worked better in this case because the book’s ending probably would have felt like WTF since they can only set up the plot so much in the limited amount of time!

After the movies, we chilled outside on the fountain and talked all about Court’s amazing trip to Italy, boys, acting, moving to Santa Monica, summer plans, and boys again.  It was so great catching up! My dinner/dessert left me pretty full the rest of the night, although I did snack on a few pieces of fresh pineapple when I got home.

Tuesday morning was yogurt. Again. My fun toppings are dwindling down but I don’t want to buy any more right before going out of town!

CIMG6016

Around 11 AM I snacked on some more fruit. I’ve never bought a whole pineapple before — it tastes so fresh!

CIMG6017

Since work was dragging, Julia suggested treating myself to something special to make the day more exciting. As soon as she said that, Poquito Mas came to mind! I got the usual Nature’s Grill Burrito with eggplant, black beans, zucchini, peppers, and onions — sans cheese or sour cream.  You don’t need it, I swear! I had these chips (plus another few handfuls) on the side. Then I was a good girl and gave the rest away to my fellow co-workers who were eyeing my meal with very jealous stares.

CIMG6019

I finished off the day pretty strong and headed home.  I wanted to go for a run but just REALLY wasn’t in the mood. I convinced myself using the old “you won’t regret it” mentality and hit the streets.  I cut the run a little short (maybe 2.5 miles this time?) because every single step was torture. My calves are totally killing me today too. It’s crazy how some days it can feel so amazing and empowering to get outside and exercise and others it just drags! You know?

I got home feeling hungry but not quite ready to sit down to dinner. I hate eating before 7 PM if I can avoid it because I stay up so late and then there are too many hours between dinner and bedtime. Ding! Smoothie time! I worked at a Smoothie King in high school and pretty much considered myself the queen of smoothies. I even brought a blender to college so I could make them at a moment’s notice (everyone eyed me jealously that my mom let me bring a blender to make mixed drinks. Um, no, this baby is for my refreshing pineapple banana protein shakes people!!).  So I used half this 100 calorie protein drink, 1/2 banana and a whole lot of ice to make this pretty, frosty glass of deliciousness!

CIMG6021

See that fuzzy white light around the glass that looks like a halo? Yes, angels were singing.

This smoothie turned out to be the PERFECT thing to hold me over until a later, 9 PM dinner, which means I had plenty of time to shower, clean, blog and do some errands before eating. Dinner was more pure randomness and an attempt to eat a lot of veggies.  I cooked some edamame and chicken but needed to bulk up the dish.  I ended up tossing eggplant, onions, red cabbage, pineapple salsa and chile paste into a pan and cooking it all up together til everything was warm and tender.  This was one of those meals where I had NO clue how it would all taste but I was v. happy with the results! Normally I would make some grains/carbs on the side but all the veggies & protein & spice left me stuffed!

CIMG6024

Not too stuffed to eat a Skinny Cow, of course :)

CIMG5727

Today I skipped the yogurt and had a slice of 9 grain Newsroom bread topped with Better N’ Peanut Butter and some cherry jelly.

CIMG6025

This tasted really good but made me feel immediately sick to my stomach which was weird. Luckily the feeling went away in an hour or so and I was good to go! I had a snack around noon — just some of the delicious pineapple.

CIMG6026

I took a little break to meet up with India for lunch.  She’s been filming in North Carolina and I haven’t seen her sweet face in weeks!! We hit up Century City’s awesome food court and I got my regular mayo-free tuna salad from Coral Tree. Repeat photo, original taste!

coral tree salad

After lunch I was crazy busy trying to finish all my work for Thursday and Friday too.  It was rushed but SO worth it!! Now I am at home, sipping another smoothie and getting ready to pack. I think dinner will probably be a repeat of last night — I really enjoyed it!

CIMG6027

My flight leaves at 11:40 PM and I get into NJ bright and early at 8 AM! I am beyond excited to be home and to see my family.  I will try to recap a bit while I’m there if I can but I’m hoping to be so busy that I hardly have the chance :)

I always have this O.A.R. song running through my head whenever I go home!

There are few things pure in this world anymore,
and home is one of the few.
We’d have a drink outside,
maybe run and hide if we saw a couple men in blue.
To me it’s so damn easy to see
that true people are the people at home.
Well, I’ve been away but now I’m back today,
and there ain’t a place I’d rather go.
I feel home,
when I see the faces that remember my own.
I feel home,
when I’m chilling outside with the people I know.
I feel home,
and that’s just what I feel.
Home to me is reality,
and all I need is something real.

Will the weather ever get summery?! I woke up Saturday morning to MORE CLOUDS and decided a batch of blueberry pancakes were in order. I used 1/2 cup whole wheat mix, 1/4 cup Maine bloobs, 1/4 cup egg beaters, some H2O and 1 tbsp maple syrup to make this plate. They were really thin but good!

CIMG5774

Thanks to the icky day outside, I spent much of the day cleaning, reading, and watching TV. I took a break around 11 AM to hit the gym for 45 minutes on the elliptical. My ankle has been bothering me the last few days, and this is the only way I can workout without really aggravating it! Followed by grocery shopping, I got home pretty hungry for lunch and pulled out some of my purchases to make a chile lime chicken burger topped with pickles and grilled onions and sweet potato fries.

CIMG5775

Snacks throughout the rest of the afternoon included a mint Skinny Cow and a Red Delicious apple.

CIMG5740

CIMG5782

After lazing around all day, I was motivated to get out of the apt and met Kate W for a late dinner at Yatai.  She just moved back to LA and has never been to our favorite sushi spot, so I had to introduce her! I started with a berry beer and some shared edamame. For our main meal, we split some favorites. Sorry for the recycled pictures!

We shared these three dishes, plus seared salmon sashimi.  I was stuffed after!  Of course, there was still a little room for dessert :)

CIMG5767

I half passed out awkwardly on the couch and roused myself at 2 AM to get into bed. Then today I woke up around 8 to more clouds.  Boo!  For breakfast I went back to basics with my regular yogurt mess. Lots of fresh and frozen fruit — it was delicious!

Topped with Oaty-Os and Kashi Go Lean Crunch!

Topped with Oaty-Os and Kashi Go Lean Crunch!

After more cloudy day activities (i.e. reading, watching tv, and cleaning again!!), I snacked on some Newsroom toast with Better N’ PB and cherry jelly.

CIMG5785

Then the SUN came out late afternoon! I grabbed an apple to enjoy with the good change in weather.

CIMG5786

Even thought it wasn’t hot, I decided to make the most of the blue skies and headed down to the beach to read on the sand. It was incredibly windy but I was so happy to finally be outside :)

I also got to swing by Panera, meaning bread and black bean soup on the beach…

CIMG5787

…and Strawberry Lemon Poppy seed Chicken salad when I got back home.

CIMG5792

Later I got a little snacky, so I made some sweet potato cheetahs and broccoli slaw with mushrooms and balsamic vinegar.

CIMG5794

This weekend flew by in a minute!! I can’t believe it’s almost Monday already.  I think I have another crazy week coming up but hopefully I can squeeze some fun stuff in there too.  Right now I am just bumming around before going to the airport to pick up Julia. She has been in MN all week and I’m so glad she’s almost home!! Her flight gets in 11:30ish so I will probably try to get to bed after that :)

Thursday morning I woke up extra early to get to the doctor’s office.  Since it’s Friday night now and I am having a relaxing evening & don’t want to harp on it, let’s just say it was not a great morning. One big shot in the arm later, I headed off to work with 2 slices of Newsroom bread heels topped with Better N’ Peanut Butter and cherry jelly.

This lovely times 2!

This lovely slice times 2!

I grabbed another coffee on the way to work; I needed the caffeine!

CIMG5754

I also chomped on a mango after getting to the office.

CIMG5751

Lunch was the rest of my gorgeous Aroma tofu rice bowl leftovers. Still amazing!

CIMG5752

With acorn squash on the side.

CIMG5753

Thursday was a pretty rough day at work. Things have been a little intense lately. I need to figure out how to go there with an attitude adjustment so I’m not so stressed out!  Luckily I had a movie date with Katie Jo and India. Dinner was pretty random…I started with more acorn squash,

CIMG5755

followed by an apple,

CIMG5757

and then a box of Junior Mints!

CIMG5763

Junior Mints are my favorite movie candy! I haven’t had a box of these in so long! We ended up seeing Angels & Demons, which wasn’t anything amazing but I love movie theaters in general, so I was happy :)

This morning I woke up early and got to work before the day officially started, giving me some time with breakfast and Reader.  The usual yogurt mess, with a whole banana today since I mostly had Kashi dust left in the box.

CIMG5758

I kicked off lunch with some mango. So fresh and delicious!

CIMG5759

Lunch was turkey on a La Tortilla Factory wrap…I tossed in a few of my BBQ pop chips. I love the crunch!

CIMG5761

Plus some more chips, green pepper slices, and red cabbage on the side.

CIMG5760

I have been insanely snacky the last two days! I was full the rest of the afternoon but wanted to munch and crunch anyway. Luckily I packed a cinnapple, which kept me from buying froyo or a chocolate bar!

CIMG5762

Don’t worry, I was just saving my treats for after dinner! First, homemade veggie pizza on the dough I made last weekend.

CIMG5772

Followed by some of the best ice cream I’ve had in a while — Ben & Jerry’s half baked froyo! Chocolate and vanilla low fat frozen yogurts with fudge brownies and gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough…yes please!!!

CIMG5767

I ate this while watching The Heartbreaker. Pretty hoaky but some funny parts too! Ah, it’s so nice having a relaxing night with nothing to worry about tomorrow. Still coming up with plans for Saturday night; anyone doing anything super exciting??

Happy weekend y’all :)

Hi everyone, hope you all had an awesome weekend!  Sorry I have been MIA…I hate not being able to post but my computer was SO SLOW yesterday and every word took five minutes to type!! Why?!?  Anyway, I’m here now!! Okay, backtrack. Friday morning I woke up a little early and shredded before work.  It was great getting it out of the way and then I didn’t have to worry about it, which was nice. I kicked off the morning with the usual. So many good fruits, finally!

CIMG4822

I was planning to eat the rest of my stir fry from Thursday for lunch, but at noon my boss paged the whole office on our phone intercoms and asked who wanted to go out! YAY! He hates leaving the office with no one there and sending calls to voicemail, but we did it anyway and all went to lunch — at Bloomies.  Only my boss decides to eat at a department store! And yes, it was all sweet old ladies there, and us HAHA.  I had a little piece of bread when we first sat down and then proceeded to order an amazing sandwich that had grilled chicken, avocado, cranberries, figs and some other good things that I am clearly forgetting in a sun-dried tomato wrap. AHH it was great! I also got some fries on the side, which I promptly split in half and gave the rest to our just-announced preggers VP.  She is so tiny and healthy and has just started ordering a grilled cheese every afternoon. I love it.  Sometimes work drives me crazy, but the people I work with are pretty darn cool. We had such a good time at lunch together…all of us talking at once and sharing food off each others plates.  It’s cute!

After a fun lunch, the rest of the afternoon went pretty quickly.  I got home and decided to take advantage of the nice weather with my good friend, 2 buck chuck.  Isn’t he sweet??

CIMG4823

I had a nice glass outside with a pre-dinner snack, yogurt mess!!!! I made this one slightly smaller than usual just to tide me over to our late dinner. I can’t drink wine and then not eat til 10 PM, just doesn’t happen!!! I think I might turn into this yummy creation, I eat it that much…

CIMG4826

Julia and I got all gussied up & as soon as her friend Jen headed over to our place, of course I couldn’t find my wallet.  I looked EVERYWHERE and then drove all the way back to my office…still no wallet. 40 minutes later, I got home and remembered I put it in my gym bag. DUH!!!!!!!! We hollered for a taxi and headed out to Yatai, our fave Asian tapas place.

We started with some cold bamboo sake and beers, but I ended up passing along the sake and drinking most of this Ginger beer and most of the Berry beer we ordered.  Flavored beer rocks!!

CIMG4829

For dinner, Julia and I split a bunch of the dishes we order every time, including the best CA roll in all existance.

CIMG4831

And some insanely delicious crispy rice with spicy tuna.

CIMG4838

Plus a newcomer to the usual rotation, tempura pumpkin with curry salt. OMFG.

CIMG4839

Last but absolutely definitely not least, popcorn shrimp. I wish I could share a bite of this with everyone!!

CIMG4840

After our amazing meal, we headed back down to Santa Monica Blvd and Bar Lubitsch, which is luckily right by our apt and an easy walk home at the end of the night.  Julia, Jen & I enjoyed a few free shots with Jen’s friends and some dancing.  Jules and I ended the night with some extra-flirty action on our parts. I may have gotten a text at 3 AM about my great looking ass, but of course, that was just factual reporting. Obviously. Julia & I smartly stayed awake chatting for a while after we got home, and I made us La Tortillas toasted with a bit of Chocolate Dreams. Perfect for sweet dreams to follow!

CIMG4835

Three Things for Friday

  1. Shared my fries at lunch
  2. Ordered my wrap without cheese or dressing
  3. Split all my dinner plates with Julia

We woke up Saturday morning needing BREAKFAST stat. I actually slept until 9, which is possibly the latest I’ve slept in years. We headed out to Venice to check out Flake, a really cute cereal restaurant.

CIMG4868

While you can order eggs & such, the star of Flake is the huge list of cereals and toppings!!  I got a bowl with one scoop frosted mini wheats, one scoop raisin bran, topped with bananas and blueberries and served with skim milk.  This place is perfect for when you are craving some cereal but don’t necessarily want to go out and get a whole box of just one kind. And it surprisinly held me over for a really long time!

CIMG4865

All mixed up!!!!!

CIMG4866

Plus a really frothy non-fat chai latte on the side.

CIMG4867

Here’s where I become a bad food blogger, no pictures of the rest of Saturday, sorry!!! So after breakfast, I headed down to Laguna Beach for Becky’s big going-away party.  I got to the beach at that awkward time when it’s too late for lunch but eating a big meal would spoil my dinner. Luckily, I had a Nature’s Valley bar in my beach bag, probably from last summer. Whatever, it did the trick! It wasn’t hot at the beach, but we played some bocce ball and the sun came out around 4, so we got a few rays!

Back at the house, we raided Becky’s closet filled with lots of things she can’t take to NYC (I scored tons of cute clothes and a pair of Gucci heels that are a wee bit too big but I’m determined to make fit anyway!!) and drank the house Cosmo Lights while doing our fashion show.  A ton more people showed up, including Becky’s friends from high school and friends of the family.  Her dad made an awesome taco bar with tortillas, chicken, rice & beans, homemade guacamole, pico de gallo, salsa & cheese.  I had two tortillas plus a few handfuls of chips with the killer guac. He made a HUGE container, which the party devoured in no time!!!  The food fest was followed by many games of beer pong in the front yard. I promise I will take pictures of the next Laguna weekend to share with y’all!!!!  We also made Becky cry when we gave her the scrapbook made secretly during the party, where everyone made a page with photos and notes, like a way-cooler yearbook.  I am going to miss her so much!!!

Julia came down when she got off work, carrying a big bag of muffins from her restaurant. Perfect to fill our bellies before bed :) Sunday morning, I woke up and settled down in the living room with another half muffin (strawberry, MMM) and Twilight #3.  Julia woke up a little bit later and we snuck out of the house for a bit to pick up coffees and flowers for Kate & Becky’s mom.  I called my mom too and she got my package and loved it!  I was sad that I couldn’t be there with her to make her breakfast in bed and spend the day together but I talked to her at least 5 times so it felt like I was there a little bit :)

CIMG4870

When J & I got back to the Laguna house from our errands, everyone else was awake and Becky was whipping up a huge breakfast for her parents and the little group of us that spent the night.  The spread included a gorgeous Mexican frittata…

CIMG4875

…lots of bagels…

CIMG4876

…and tons of toppings, like smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, avocado, and capers!!

CIMG4879

CIMG4872

My brain was bigger than my belly, and I topped two big bagel halves and cut a little slice of frittata.  I ate one of the bagel sandwiches and most of the frittata.  It was amazing!

CIMG4880

After our big meal, we all just laid around and read books for a bit, waiting for the sun to come out.  When it looked like the clouds were sticking around for the rest of the day, we all gave Becky big kisses and headed back to LA.  I brought along the other half of my bagel, which made for a perfect late lunch when I got back to the city.

CIMG4883

The rest of the day was spent cleaning my room, doing laundry, attempting to blog, and finishing off Twilight #3 in between.  Throughout the rest of the day, I sporadically snacked on a few different things, including strawberries,

CIMG4890

5 leftover TJ multigrain & flaxseed crackers with hummus,

CIMG4891

salad with baked tofu,

CIMG4893

some shirataki tofu noodles mixed with 1/4 cup tomato sauce, basil, S & P,

CIMG4895

and the final scoop of TJ organic soy-creamy non-ice cream ice cream.

CIMG4902

Man, I love the weekend!  Sunday nights are always so relaxing and bittersweet at the same time, you know??  This week is looking pretty busy because I have a lot to get done before leaving Thursday night for Boston to see my Rachiekins! Hope you are all having a good Monday, can’t wait to catch up on your fun lives :)

Three Things for Saturday

  1. Skipped the Lucky Charms & Cinnamon Toast Crunch @ Flake
  2. Ate a light snack between breakfast and dinner so I wouldn’t fill up
  3. Cut my Cosmo in half with soda water

Three Things for Sunday

  1. Saved half of my breakfast for lunch
  2. Made salad & shirataki instead of continuing to snack
  3. Ate a healthy dessert portion (you can’t tell from the picture, but I just had one scoop and then closed down the kitchen!)

I actually made some progress on my work today — always a good thing!!!  Breakfast was the usual :)

p1013177

For lunch, I heated up some Indian food that I cooked last night — Tasty Bite Punjab Eggplant with a serving of brown rice and a side of veggies.

p1013170

It was pretty good and sort of spicy. I got this at Fresh & Easy and it made 2 servings at 140ish calories each!!

p1013178

Of course, I went shopping on my lunch break and didn’t get back to the office to eat until 2 and I was WAY past the hungry point.  So right after I finished my lunch, I dug into my pre-workout snack — a chocolate mocha Fiber One bar.  This is the first time I’ve had this flavor and I wasn’t disappointed!  The PB is still my absolute favorite, but this one definitely gets second place.  The mocha was a great extra :)

p1013185

Orange you glad I painted my nails this fun shade??? HAHAHAHA, I’m so funny.

After work, I hit the gym for 60 minutes on the elliptical. I found some Fine Young Cannibals to rock out to on my iPod, old-schooL!!  For dinner, I made a quick salad with spinach, grape tomatoes, mushrooms, and Catalina free dressing to get something in my stomach before showering.

p1013181

After my shower, I cooked up a batch of black/kidney bean burgers.  1 cup of beans made 4 burgers, two for tonight and two for tomorrow.  They didn’t stick together all that well, but they still tasted good!  Especially drizzled with Bone Suckin’ Sauce.

p1013183

Right now I am watching last night’s Law & Order SVU while eating a little dessert. This cup of ice cream with 2 dried cantaloupe pieces is DEEElicious!

p1013188

Three Things for Wednesday

  1. Ate the lunch I brought from home instead of picking up food from a restaurant with everyone else (yes, my office eats out a lot!)
  2. Tricked my hungry tummy with a mug of tea instead of another snack before going to the gym
  3. Skipped the carb-y side with dinner

The weekend is almost here! It’s supposed to be warm again, so I am crossing my fingers for the beach! Anyone else planning to catch some rays?

This week feels like it’s off to a slow start! Work is dragging like whoa. Monday morning I woke up at 5 AM feeling sick and was up for a bit, but felt much better by the time I got into the office and dug into my yogurt mess.

p1013154

A little before noon, I had my Chocolate Chip Z-Bar from Saturday for some pre-workout fuel.

p1013163

Yup, I tried to make a gym stop during lunch on Monday!  I was able to hit the elliptical for 30 minutes, which was great, but I was racing back and forth between the office and the gym, and it still took me more than an hour.  So it looks like going to the gym during lunch isn’t going to work, but at least I gave it a try and found that out!

I took my really sore ankles and calves over to Coral Tree Cafe and treated myself to my favorite no-mayo tuna salad.

p1013155

After work, Kate came over with a nice bottle of red from TJ. I had a small glass of Cabernet Sauvignon while cooking up dinner.  Julia, Kate and I split a baked acorn squashed stuffed with 2 servings of quinoa cooked with raisins & figs, 2 chile lime chicken burgers and one beef burger.  We ended up only making two servings of everything, but it made more than enough food for all three of us.  The acorn squash turned out perfect!

p1013161

After dinner, we watched last week & last night’s Gossip Girl while eating dessert, which was a whole variety of treats.  I had some more s’more (haha) ice cream with one of Julia’s oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.

p1013153

Plus a few slices of dried cantaloupe. I was way too stuffed after all this…definitely too many sweets!

p1013162

Three Things for Monday

  1. Attempted to workout at lunch
  2. Ordered salad dressing on the side & only used half
  3. Limited myself to one small glass of wine

If I am going to be totally honest with myself though (and with you!!), I think this was my worst day of “three things” thus far.  Aside from the salad dressing at lunch, I didn’t feel like I was making conscious healthy choices, especially when it came to dessert.  I gave all those snacks last night some serious consideration as I was eating them, but I ate too many sweets anyway.  I want to be able to name off three good choices every day without having to think long and hard about it, so I will definitely keep working on that :)

I woke up tired again today! Luckily another yogurt mess was there to the rescue. Today I added in some figs after enjoying them so much in my dinner last night.

p1013164

Lunch was a random mishmash of food I grabbed as I literally ran out the door.  It ended up being surprisingly delicious!  I had a serving of breaded eggplant, a nuked sweet potato, and a fuji apple.

p1013166

Lunch held me over pretty well actually! Around 3:30 I had a pre-workout snack of ak-mak crackers with hummus. I love that this combo is under 150 calories!

p1013167

Unfortunately, I was pretty hungry again by the time I hit the gym but I refrained from snacking and did 60 minutes on the elliptical. My ankles are feeling much better today, which makes working out a lot easier! I also had a new book with me, Queen of the Road by Doreen Orion, which helped the time pass quickly.

For dinner tonight, I was totally inspired by Kath’s calzones and decided to use one of my leftover dough balls from Sunday to make one.  I stuffed the homemade honey rosemary whole wheat dough with 1/4 cup sauce, 1/4 part skim shredded mozzarella cheese, basil, 3 chopped mushrooms and a big handful of spinach.  Here’s the calzone pre-folding…

p1013169

…and after baking!

p1013172

p1013174

This is the first time I have ever made a calzone and I think it turned out pretty great!  It’s weird how you can use the exact same ingredients you use to make a pizza, yet the end result seems to taste so much different. I also had a few veggies on the side.

p1013176

Three Things for Tuesday

  1. Passed on ordering in Chipotle at lunch
  2. Refrained from drinking diet soda (I usually don’t drink this at work, but I had a huge craving for it today but made myself drink tea instead)
  3. Had a small glass of milk instead of dessert before going to bed

Okay you guys, it’s LATE and I’m needing some sleep.  Will I ever get to bed before midnight??  Hmmm, let me go ponder that question while catching those zzzs.  By the way, thoughts on TBL?!?!

Saturday morning, I woke up way too early as usual, so I caught up on some TV while eating my yogurt mess.  I used another (#3 out of 4!!) of my Oikos coupons and tested the blueberry variety. It was good, but I liked the vanilla better, maybe since I am adding fruit myself anyway.  I am still crossing my fingers on finding the honey one! The Oikos makes for a much thicker yogurt base, can’t you tell?!

p10130711

After a relaxing morning of TV catch-up and packing for my night in Laguna, Becky picked me up and we headed over to the outlets.  On the way, we stopped into Whole Foods for some lunch goodies. I got an amazing mix of different quinoa and wheatberry salads, plus some veggies and pieces of pineapple. I ate every bite!

p1013072

I also ate about half of this piece of chicken for a protein boost. Whoa, I was STUFFED after all these goodies!

p10130741

Finally we made it to the outlets and started shopping for Becky’s upcoming move to NYC.  She leaves in just a few weeks (!!!) for the NY Teaching Fellows and wanted to get some gear for her new work environment.  The Southern California uniform of flip flops, yoga pants & tank probably won’t quite cut it there LOL. We found some AMAZING sales, and I ended up getting a very bright yellow skirt and an equally bright yellow top at Banana Republic. After walking around the mall for 4 hours or so, my still-full belly was asking for some froyo so we swung by Haagen-Dazs and I grabbed a cup of regular vanilla with rainbow sprinkles. This perfectly hit the spot!

p1013075

Tired but successful, we headed back to Becky’s place in Laguna…definitely stopping at Starbucks on the way for a skinny vanilla latte. Yummy and much needed!

p10130761

Back at Becky’s, we lazed around and waited for Julia to drive down after work and meet us for dinner. Becky and I talked about books (thanks again for slipping me The Red Tent!!) and drank her family’s signature Cosmo Lights.  Here’s mine chilling with some cute tabletop decorations!

drink

When Julia arrived in Laguna, we all scrambled to get ready and make it out to dinner before the kitchen closed. Why oh why am I always on the latest schedule?? We got to the restaurant maybe a few minute before ten and immediately ordered a bottle of champagne to celebrate Becky’s birthday. Cheers BeckY!!!!

p1013096

p1013085

Julia & I wanted to take Becky out for a special dinner to celebrate, so we went to K’ya, since Becky had never been there before and we thought it would be nice to do something different. Score!!! This restaurant was SO good. Everything was basically priced to share (served tapas-style and mostly $5 dishes), but the portions were way bigger than we expected!  This place was a real deal! The three of us shared everything below:

Three Cheese Macaroni — wild mushrooms, pesto, truffle crust, parmesan, gruyere & gorgonzola

p1013089

Bruschetta with hummus, grilled peppers, olives & capers

p1013091

Flash Fried Calamari with sweet & spicy thai glaze, bean sprouts, carrots, peanuts, cilantro & green onions (hands-down best calamari I have ever eaten!)

p1013092

An order of crispy sweet potato fries — some people (AHEM!) couldn’t wait for me to take a picture before testing these :)

p1013103

And then we each ordered our own mini burger to finish off the meal!

p1013107

Of course we couldn’t leave without some singing! Our waiter brought over a chocolate cake dessert with a candle and Becky tolerated our off-key, enthusiastic rendition of HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

p1013110

The three of us shared the warm chocolate cake, eaten along with bites of chilly ice cream.

p1013112

But the real star was the French Toast-style dessert. DELISH!!

p1013113

Here’s a picture of me with the birthday girl! Happy happy day Becky, we love you!

After dinner, Julia cabbied it home and Becky and I went next door to The Sandpiper (apparently only people who don’t live in Laguna call it that, everyone else just says The Piper) and met up with Kate and one of her friends who was in town visiting along with her brother and two Italian cousins.  We all just danced the rest of the night away!  Around 1 AM I turned into a tired crazy lady and we all made our way home where I got into bed and crashed hard.

Julia & I were up with the sun so we could get back to LA before her 10 AM shift at work. We stopped by the Becky & Kate recommended Shirley’s for breakfast to-go.

p1013134

I got an amazing oat bran bagel with light cream cheese on the side. Everything I ate this weekend was seriously stellar!

p1013136

I also snagged a diet lemon Snapple. For some reason, I couldn’t even attempt coffee. Too early maybe?

p1013139

I got to take a nice little power nap when I got home, which was great and much needed. Afterwards, I spent the day cleaning, doing laundry, and being lazy. Around noon, I snacked on some frozen greens — peas and edamame.

p1013140

Since I had plenty of time to make lunch and didn’t get to do my pizza Friday this week, I decided to make some dough and roll out a mini pizza for lunch. I used the honey whole wheat recipe and separated it into 3 balls.  I rolled some fresh rosemary into the crust too, and 1/4 cup oats, for some extra taste and texture.  I topped the pizza with tomato basil hummus, mushrooms, more rosemary and sea salt.  Very basic and very good!

p1013141

The pizza kept me full for hours and hours. Dinner came in bits and pieces between 7-11. First, I had some red pepper slices.

p1013144

Then I had a chile lime chicken burger with a nice little swirl of ketchup.

p1013145

I could NOT think of what else I wanted to eat with this, but Julia finally saved the day by letting me steal a nice big bowl of her spaghetti squash.

p1013146

All my dinner items were eaten simply to get me to dessert. I had a huge craving for ice cream ALL day yesterday and decided to eat some after dinner instead of during the day (for me, that always turns into eating it ALL day).  I found a new slow churned limited edition flavor that I haven’t seen yet — S’mores — and just had to give it a try!

p1013151

This flavor has chocolate and toasted marshmallow light ice creams with pieces of marshmallow, graham crackers, and chocolate chips. It’s awesome!! If you like s’mores, I definitely recommend this one!

On a somewhat unrelated note, I read about Jenna @ Eat Live Run’s terrible loss this morning, and wanted to just put it out there to the universe that everyone is thinking of her and to please send some positive thoughts and vibes her way.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday! Hmm, is that an oxymoron?? :)

Almost forgot!

Three Things for Saturday

  1. Skipped the pizzas and pastas I was eyeing at WF in favor of the whole grain salads, veggies and protein
  2. Ordered non-fat froyo at Haagen-Dazs instead of ice cream
  3. Decided not to snack before going to dinner, ever though we didn’t eat until 10

Three Things for Sunday

  1. Ordered light cream cheese on the side and spread a pretty thin layer on my bagel
  2. Made my lunch pizza without any cheese
  3. Refrained from eating any of the homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies Julia was baking last night (smelled amazing though!!!)
