First off, I just want to say that today I received a special package from Diana at The Chic Life when I got into work!! I WAS SO EXCITED! She managed to have the box arrive on my birthday too, it was some true cosmic perfection.  Our east/west coast swap was a stellar success :) I will fill you all in on the goodies later when I have a chance to take pictures, but here is a little preview — I received some of THESE delicious homemade bars! Can’t wait to have one today!! THANKS DIANA, YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR!

Okay, on to yesterday’s eats! I went back to fruit and yogurt for breakfast. I am completely out of my favorite cherry blend and mango, so this mess was somewhat on the boring side for me.

cimg31011

Lunch was a 6 inch subway turkey sandwich on wheat with lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, red onions, lots of pickles, S & P, and vinegar. I had subway TOO many times over the next 24 hours…this is just part 1!

cimg3102

I bought some Baked Lay’s but REALLY wanted pretzels (anyone else notice/hate how subway doesn’t sell pretzels??), so I ditched the chips and bought a bag of Snyder’s minis at the shop in my office building. I had half the bag with lunch! (Coley — I always buy Snyder’s now in your honor LOL)

cimg3104

Around 4 I dug into the last of my snap pea supply.

cimg3105

After work, I met up with a bunch of friends at Lola’s, the neighborhood martini bar. The happy hour can’t be beat, with $5 (strong) martinis. I stopped off at home quickly to feed the kitten babies and change before I scarfed down another 1/4 of my sub (got the footlong with the idea of having some for dinner too!!) and the other 1/2 bag of pretzels to get a little dinner in my belly.  At the bar, I started off with this “Give Me Fever” pomegranate/lemonade martini.

cimg3107

We also ordered some appetizers for the table, but I was not too hungry so I only had about 3 chips with dip and a few pita triangles with hummus.

cimg3109

As more people joined the table, more drinks magically appeared. Caramel apple martinis were next!  These were seriously delish.

cimg3110

Somehow I ended up with a glass of bubbly as happy hour drew to a close. Oh yeah, I was playing some pool right about then, hence the cue stick.

cimg3119

All this was followed by a heavenly slice of chocolate cake to share (I ate a decent amount of it though!!). Apparently they told the waitress, whatever had the most chocolate was what I wanted. Ahhh am I that obvious?? This was the Guiltless Chocolate Ganache Tart w/Hazelnut Crust w/fresh raspberries, berry compote, vanilla ice cream touched with dulce de leche. How or why it was “guiltless” I do not know :)

cimg3117

More people came, we had a round of lemon drop shots. Then a round of chocolate cake shots in honor of the birthday. These are my favorite, since they taste like…wait for it…chocolate! Duh. Last drink of the night was the best martini of all time. Chocolate. Okay, sorry, last chocolate of the night, I promise!  I could only drink a few sips of this one cause I. Was. Done.  There is a dusting of cocoa on the rim and it’s one of the all-time best drinks I’ve ever had.

cimg3134

When I got home, I had the other 1/4 of my subway waiting for me! It was the perfect size for a healthy post-partying snack.

Coming up! More about my coastal swap package (!!) and insanely good birthday eats, including a killer Ben & Jerry’s ice cream cake. Trust me, you will want to read about it and might need to get some of your own afterwards :)

Friday ended up being a total food overload, thanks to a combo of treats at work and going out at night. My breakfast was normal…

cimg2938

…but then I added some donut tastes!

cimg2940

I knew there would be more to follow, so I kept these small.

cimg2941

For lunch, I had a bowl of black bean soup and half a tuna salad sandwich on ciabatta bread from Coral Tree Cafe.  The tuna salad is mayo-free and so delicious!  Afterwards, I snacked on one of the moistest, icing-est cookies of all time.  These are sold at the grocery store and are oddly really excellent.

cimg2927

Near the end of the day, I started to snack on another bite of donut, but switched to snap peas instead.  Good Kate :)

cimg2942

Good Kate didn’t last very long though…I stopped by the post office to pick up a package from my mom which contained a big Russell Stover heart of assorted chocolates.  Thanks Mommy!!  Of course, I ate SIX as soon as I opened the box. Uhh, yeah. They were super good, but it was chocolate overload!  Then it was a glass of wine with some pita chips and spinach artichoke dip for dinner.  Later that night I had a Starbucks Mocha martini out with the gang.  I LOVE those! Plus a vodka cranberry when we went dancing later.  I got home around 2AM and curled up in bed with a book.  That’s when the late late night eating started. It was WAY too much. I filled a dessert plate with pieces of donut, cookies, pita chips, and blue corn tortilla chips.  Then I had another plate with more when I finished that one. I woke up feeling awful.  I haven’t had a night like that in a while, where I just felt really gross and embarrassed by all the chocolate and junk I consumed for 24 hours.  I definitely used up my daily calorie amount in snacks alone. I called my sister to vent and she motivated me to get out the door.  So instead of laying in bed feeling guilty, I went on a run.  I ended up running/walking five miles while listening to the Goo Goo Dolls on my iPOD. It was such a great morning, and I felt so healthy to be moving, that it totally lifted my mood. Here’s a picture I snapped on my cell of the beautiful view from my route.

When I got home, I snacked on a piece of banana before brunch.

cimg3009

I knew that today would be another indulgent day, but I decided to make it indulgent without too much overload.  It seems to me that when I overdo it with food is when I end up feeling badly about what I eat, which is really a waste when I am eating pasta and chocolate and cheese and bread.  Wouldn’t it make more sense to eat an amount that is satisfying rather than so much that I end up feeling sickly?  I always want to beat myself up after nights like Friday, but I decided that I wasn’t going to do that, and my run and healthy brunch really helped to keep things into perspective.

My first LA friend Ali is in town visiting (!!!) so a group of us hit up Newsroom, where my roomie works, for brunch.  I started off with a non-fat vanilla latte.

cimg3010

And then we ordered Newsroom’s famous artichoke, which is marinated in balsamic vinegar for 2 hours and then grilled — YUM!

cimg3011

Our waiter also brought us these vegetarian hot wings, which I think are just made of soy on a skewer.

For my main meal, I dug into the Brazilian High Energy Breakfast Bowl.  The menu details this deliciousness as blended sambazon acai soy moo & banana topped with hemp granola and fresh berries.  Look at this big bowl of heart health!!

cimg3012

Blended acai underneath:

cimg3013

Nick had a watermelon martini that he passed around the table so everyone could take a sip :)

cimg3018

Newsroom lattes are SO GOOD!

cimg3026

Then we hit the road = oh yeah, I forgot to mention we walked there! DING! Another 5 miles added to my morning roster. I brought this piece of bread for the road.  That’s Julia hand modeling :)

cimg3027

This meal held me over almost until dinner!  I dug into one of these 100 calorie bars before my big V-day foodfest.

cimg3031

Here was our spread for the night:

cimg3035

cimg3036

cimg3038

And our dessert!

cimg3042

My piece :)

cimg3046

Today I woke up and relaxed ALL DAY.  It was heavenly. I started off with a childhood breakfast favorite dubbed “eggs in a basket.”

cimg3047

Here’s what it looks like when you cut into the egg. MMM

cimg3053

For lunch I had a slice of the delicious spanakopita cooked by India. Plus a square of chocolate. Doesn’t it look gourmet??

cimg3041

After napping and watching Bravo reruns most the day, I stopped off at my favorite sushi place to pick up a spicy tuna roll and california roll.

cimg3054

cimg3056

Plus edamame

cimg3057

And one of the vegetable egg rolls from Trader Joe’s.

cimg3058

For dessert I dug into another brownie piece with a scoop of the Breyers fat free ice cream.

cimg3060

All in all, I had a great relaxing weekend. Friday I really pushed myself to that place where you just feel UGH, but rather than get mad at myself the rest of the weekend, I just made a conscious effort to change my thinking. I am so happy that I was able to turn around my food feelings. And I still ate a bunch of rich, delicious food the next two days without that annoying nagging guilt that comes with excess food overload. There is going to be a lot of eating/drinking and little exercise through next weekend though, since the rest of this week is going to be crazy busy. Ali is in town until Thursday, and then it’s my birthday and VEGAS!! I’m so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The trip is adding up to be wild and crazy for sure. I can’t wait! Night all! Hope everyone had a great weekend/Valentine’s Day…and I hope that YOU all have off tomorrow :)

So my computer is still on the fritz. I don’t know if it will start working again! None of my amazing pics from yesterday, sad. Luckily my roommate is the best and is letting me bum her comp right now. I had coffee and an extra-fruit packed yogurt for breakfast, with mango, pineapples, cherry berry blend, half banana, and half cup kashi.

cimg2802

Lunch today was a Perfect 10 bagel, toasted (aka burned), with turkey and spinach. Plus a serving of bbq popped chips (all these for 120 cals) and a lovely side salad. This guy had spinach, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and green beans.

cimg2804

For dessert I had some tea and one of these dove dark chocolates.  I was hungry again later in the afternoon but since I had drinks planned instead of the gym, I just stuck to the one little sweet treat.

cimg2815

After work, I met up with a former colleague who I hadn’t seen in ages for a catch up session.  We went to Lola’s, a great martini bar that’s literally across the street from my apartment.  They do a killer happy hour!! We each had two glasses of champagne and split two apps too, the hummus with pita and the spinach dip with chips. This hummus is great. I feel like I am always saying that. Maybe just all hummus is delicious?! We ate basically everything minus some of the leftover tortilla chips :)

cimg2819

Later at home I decided to indulge in a little dessert before bed.  I took a nice scoop of the fat free chocolate cookies Breyers and topped it with some frozen mango. I could have eaten this times 3 LOL

cimg28371

Today I got to show off my new haircut!! Everyone seemed to like it…I am still getting used to it, but I’m definitely ready to rock it. Here is a lil self portrait :)

cimg2829

Tomorrow we are having a new client (!!!!!!) come in for lunch at our office. Normally I would be nervous about a lunch buffet, but one of our other clients is providing all the food and everything they make is HEALTHY!! Lots of fresh fruit and whole grains in store :) This was a long Monday but I feel a lot better now that the week is truly underway. Night all!
