Hi everyone, hope you all had an awesome weekend!  Sorry I have been MIA…I hate not being able to post but my computer was SO SLOW yesterday and every word took five minutes to type!! Why?!?  Anyway, I’m here now!! Okay, backtrack. Friday morning I woke up a little early and shredded before work.  It was great getting it out of the way and then I didn’t have to worry about it, which was nice. I kicked off the morning with the usual. So many good fruits, finally!

I was planning to eat the rest of my stir fry from Thursday for lunch, but at noon my boss paged the whole office on our phone intercoms and asked who wanted to go out! YAY! He hates leaving the office with no one there and sending calls to voicemail, but we did it anyway and all went to lunch — at Bloomies.  Only my boss decides to eat at a department store! And yes, it was all sweet old ladies there, and us HAHA.  I had a little piece of bread when we first sat down and then proceeded to order an amazing sandwich that had grilled chicken, avocado, cranberries, figs and some other good things that I am clearly forgetting in a sun-dried tomato wrap. AHH it was great! I also got some fries on the side, which I promptly split in half and gave the rest to our just-announced preggers VP.  She is so tiny and healthy and has just started ordering a grilled cheese every afternoon. I love it.  Sometimes work drives me crazy, but the people I work with are pretty darn cool. We had such a good time at lunch together…all of us talking at once and sharing food off each others plates.  It’s cute!

After a fun lunch, the rest of the afternoon went pretty quickly.  I got home and decided to take advantage of the nice weather with my good friend, 2 buck chuck.  Isn’t he sweet??

I had a nice glass outside with a pre-dinner snack, yogurt mess!!!! I made this one slightly smaller than usual just to tide me over to our late dinner. I can’t drink wine and then not eat til 10 PM, just doesn’t happen!!! I think I might turn into this yummy creation, I eat it that much…

Julia and I got all gussied up & as soon as her friend Jen headed over to our place, of course I couldn’t find my wallet.  I looked EVERYWHERE and then drove all the way back to my office…still no wallet. 40 minutes later, I got home and remembered I put it in my gym bag. DUH!!!!!!!! We hollered for a taxi and headed out to Yatai, our fave Asian tapas place.

We started with some cold bamboo sake and beers, but I ended up passing along the sake and drinking most of this Ginger beer and most of the Berry beer we ordered.  Flavored beer rocks!!

For dinner, Julia and I split a bunch of the dishes we order every time, including the best CA roll in all existance.

And some insanely delicious crispy rice with spicy tuna.

Plus a newcomer to the usual rotation, tempura pumpkin with curry salt. OMFG.

Last but absolutely definitely not least, popcorn shrimp. I wish I could share a bite of this with everyone!!

After our amazing meal, we headed back down to Santa Monica Blvd and Bar Lubitsch, which is luckily right by our apt and an easy walk home at the end of the night.  Julia, Jen & I enjoyed a few free shots with Jen’s friends and some dancing.  Jules and I ended the night with some extra-flirty action on our parts. I may have gotten a text at 3 AM about my great looking ass, but of course, that was just factual reporting. Obviously. Julia & I smartly stayed awake chatting for a while after we got home, and I made us La Tortillas toasted with a bit of Chocolate Dreams. Perfect for sweet dreams to follow!

Three Things for Friday

  1. Shared my fries at lunch
  2. Ordered my wrap without cheese or dressing
  3. Split all my dinner plates with Julia

We woke up Saturday morning needing BREAKFAST stat. I actually slept until 9, which is possibly the latest I’ve slept in years. We headed out to Venice to check out Flake, a really cute cereal restaurant.

While you can order eggs & such, the star of Flake is the huge list of cereals and toppings!!  I got a bowl with one scoop frosted mini wheats, one scoop raisin bran, topped with bananas and blueberries and served with skim milk.  This place is perfect for when you are craving some cereal but don’t necessarily want to go out and get a whole box of just one kind. And it surprisinly held me over for a really long time!

All mixed up!!!!!

Plus a really frothy non-fat chai latte on the side.

Here’s where I become a bad food blogger, no pictures of the rest of Saturday, sorry!!! So after breakfast, I headed down to Laguna Beach for Becky’s big going-away party.  I got to the beach at that awkward time when it’s too late for lunch but eating a big meal would spoil my dinner. Luckily, I had a Nature’s Valley bar in my beach bag, probably from last summer. Whatever, it did the trick! It wasn’t hot at the beach, but we played some bocce ball and the sun came out around 4, so we got a few rays!

Back at the house, we raided Becky’s closet filled with lots of things she can’t take to NYC (I scored tons of cute clothes and a pair of Gucci heels that are a wee bit too big but I’m determined to make fit anyway!!) and drank the house Cosmo Lights while doing our fashion show.  A ton more people showed up, including Becky’s friends from high school and friends of the family.  Her dad made an awesome taco bar with tortillas, chicken, rice & beans, homemade guacamole, pico de gallo, salsa & cheese.  I had two tortillas plus a few handfuls of chips with the killer guac. He made a HUGE container, which the party devoured in no time!!!  The food fest was followed by many games of beer pong in the front yard. I promise I will take pictures of the next Laguna weekend to share with y’all!!!!  We also made Becky cry when we gave her the scrapbook made secretly during the party, where everyone made a page with photos and notes, like a way-cooler yearbook.  I am going to miss her so much!!!

Julia came down when she got off work, carrying a big bag of muffins from her restaurant. Perfect to fill our bellies before bed 🙂 Sunday morning, I woke up and settled down in the living room with another half muffin (strawberry, MMM) and Twilight #3.  Julia woke up a little bit later and we snuck out of the house for a bit to pick up coffees and flowers for Kate & Becky’s mom.  I called my mom too and she got my package and loved it!  I was sad that I couldn’t be there with her to make her breakfast in bed and spend the day together but I talked to her at least 5 times so it felt like I was there a little bit 🙂

When J & I got back to the Laguna house from our errands, everyone else was awake and Becky was whipping up a huge breakfast for her parents and the little group of us that spent the night.  The spread included a gorgeous Mexican frittata…

…lots of bagels…

…and tons of toppings, like smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, avocado, and capers!!

My brain was bigger than my belly, and I topped two big bagel halves and cut a little slice of frittata.  I ate one of the bagel sandwiches and most of the frittata.  It was amazing!

After our big meal, we all just laid around and read books for a bit, waiting for the sun to come out.  When it looked like the clouds were sticking around for the rest of the day, we all gave Becky big kisses and headed back to LA.  I brought along the other half of my bagel, which made for a perfect late lunch when I got back to the city.

The rest of the day was spent cleaning my room, doing laundry, attempting to blog, and finishing off Twilight #3 in between.  Throughout the rest of the day, I sporadically snacked on a few different things, including strawberries,

5 leftover TJ multigrain & flaxseed crackers with hummus,

salad with baked tofu,

some shirataki tofu noodles mixed with 1/4 cup tomato sauce, basil, S & P,

and the final scoop of TJ organic soy-creamy non-ice cream ice cream.

Man, I love the weekend!  Sunday nights are always so relaxing and bittersweet at the same time, you know??  This week is looking pretty busy because I have a lot to get done before leaving Thursday night for Boston to see my Rachiekins! Hope you are all having a good Monday, can’t wait to catch up on your fun lives 🙂

Three Things for Saturday

  1. Skipped the Lucky Charms & Cinnamon Toast Crunch @ Flake
  2. Ate a light snack between breakfast and dinner so I wouldn’t fill up
  3. Cut my Cosmo in half with soda water

Three Things for Sunday

  1. Saved half of my breakfast for lunch
  2. Made salad & shirataki instead of continuing to snack
  3. Ate a healthy dessert portion (you can’t tell from the picture, but I just had one scoop and then closed down the kitchen!)

Happy Belated Administrative Professionals Day!! That’s what we were shouting when we surprised the office managers with brunch Friday morning. Everyone brought in food and we had a little potluck.  I donated chocolate chip muffins, homemade by India Thursday night, to the table — thanks India!!  We got a huge jug of Starbucks coffee.  I had two cups and MAN that stuff is way stronger than what I make at home.  I was not wired at all but in a caffeine stupor.  I also had a bagel (just half is pictured here but I ate the whole thing!) with low-fat cream cheese, a slice of chocolate rugelach, and some apple slices & cubes of pineapple.  VERY FILLING!

For lunch I brought my leftovers from last night. These burgers are great. This hummus is great. I love this meal!  Instead of sweet potato on the side, I sliced up some polenta and nuked it. It’s much better when baked/broiled, but it fit in my mini tupperware and was easy to make (two big lunch requirements LOL).

I had this piece of rugelach x way too many more bites along with some apple slices and pineapple, making me lose the good food feeling I had after lunch.  The rugelach was absolutely delicious but I definitely overdid it with breaking off and eating too many pieces because I was FULL to the brim on sugar and it did not feel so good.

Luckily Julia was home and wanted to go on a hike with me after work.  We hiked the hard side of the canyon going up, and ran down the middle paved trail. Man, one week break from exercise really does make a difference! I was huffing and puffing way more than usual. On the way home, we dropped into Coffee Bean and I got an iced coffee to help me power through the night!

Of course, we were running late as usual and got home at 8:30 still needing to shower, eat dinner and get ready to go to an 80s tribute show at 9:30, oops! I had a La Tortilla Factory tortilla stuffed with a TJ chile lime chicken burger and some tomato & basil hummus with broccoli on the side. These burgers have 19 grams of protein!

By some crazy miracle (or because the boys knew we would be late and told us to come an hour earlier than the band went on LOL), we got to the bar before the show started.  The 80s band was awesome!! I wanted to hold onto the healthy mindset I had forced between eating all that pastry and going on a hike, so I stuck to diet coke at the bar. Surprisingly I don’t need a drink to dance at a bar, crazy, right?!

When I got home around 1 AM, I was pretty hungry so I poured maybe a cup, cup & a half of Kashi with some strawberries and caught up on The Office!

Today I am headed to the outlets and then Laguna Beach for dinner with Becky.  Hope y’all are having a great weekend!

Three Things for Friday

  1. Walked to the canyon (adds about 4 miles round trip to the hike) instead of driving there
  2. Low calorie, high protein dinner
  3. Drank only diet coke at the bar

Sorry to be missing in action! I had a super late night last night and just couldn’t muster the energy to post at 1 am LOL. So here’s what I’ve been up to…Tuesday breakfast was a yogurt mess, of course.

I switched up my lunch from the turkey avocado and had a lovely shirataki meal that I quickly nuked up in the micro Monday night. I used these tofu noodles, frozen broccoli & cauliflower, chicken and soy sauce. Shirataki, I’m in love!

I brought a little bit of Easter into the office with some chocolates. I’m seriously obsessed with the Reese’s eggs.

I also had an apple late afternoon. I wish I had a good knife at the office so I could have cut this up, but ah well, just ate it old-school style.

No gym for me last night! Instead, I met my friend Jorge at Birds for dinner, where I got rotisserie chicken, roasted potatoes and steamed veggies with a side of BBQ sauce and a piece of lavash. The chicken was really great and totally hit the spot.

Our plan for after dinner was to hit up a comedy show next door to the restaurant, but our timing was totally off and we had a little bit of a wait, so we hopped over to the coffee shop on the other side of the restaurant (love when everything is close together!!). I got a single Americano and had to take a few pictures because of the awesome lighting. Aren’t these cool shots?!

After coffee, we went to see The Birthday Boys perform some sketch comedy. One of my friends is in the group so it’s fun to catch the shows when I can! They are crazy funny. They kicked off the night for a whole slew of other comedians, including Sarah Silverman and some of the cast from her show. The laughs lasted until midnight, where I still somehow found room for more Easter candy before getting into bed…

Today I had another messy yogurt (hahaha I just get sick of saying yogurt mess so I gotta switch it up sometimes, you know?!). I finished off my mangolicious blend, boo! This one was chock full of goodies.

Today I got my second spa treatment for work!! Ahhh, I could so get used to these. This one was TWO hours and so amazing. First, I got slathered in different kinds of clay, wrapped in plastic, and covered in hot blankets. This process softens skin while helping the body sweat out and release toxins. Then came a soak in a hot tub for one, complete with jets and water that you can control yourself. Of course I helped myself to two Clementines and some spa water (you know, with the water and lemons in it) that were sitting next to the tub to help replenish before the …50 minute full body massage. Yes, I know, I am so insanely spoiled sometimes!

After finish up my “work” for the client, I stopped by Panera to refuel before heading back to the office. Sadly, today isn’t black bean soup day AND they were out of french baguette, my favorite thing on the menu!! But the garden veggie soup, whole grain baguette, and Mediterranean veggie sandwich (minus feta of course) were extra delicious. The hummus totally made the sandwich.

The rest of the day flew by (maybe the best day in the office ever!!). I had a nice crunchy apple that I grabbed at the spa while driving over to the gym. I did the usual 60 minutes on the elliptical. I feel like I’ve had to push myself hard to get through an hour of cardio lately, wonder why…

After the gym, I came home to discover two packets of Barney Butter in my mailbox! Of course, one of these immediately jumped onto half a banana and an ak-mak cracker. The taste surprised me at first. I have to admit, I was expecting it to taste nuttier, if that makes any sense. But I LOVED the “stick to the roof of your mouth” factor that I haven’t really found with any other brand. Totally reminded me of eating PB as a kid!!

I also had a cup of Kashi Honey Sunshine with the other half of the banana, plus 1% milk.

Of course I was doing so well today and then I had to go and have a whole bunch of Easter candy (while watching TBL, how bad is that?!). No pictures because I definitely just ate it straight out of the bag. All the candy motivated me to check out On Demand and sure enough, I have Jillian’s 30 Day Shred, Levels 1 & 2 available, so I checked out level 1 and had Jillybean shred me up!!!

I can definitely see why everyone is seeing arms & ab results. Not sure if I am ready to do it every single night but this will definitely be making it’s way into my rotation, especially any & every day I don’t go to the gym for an hour of cardio.

So about the title of my post, when I was driving home from work today, I was just thinking about how far I’ve come and how lucky I feel. When I first moved to LA I had no clue what I was doing, I just knew I wanted to try. Kaneil over at Balance is Best recently wrote something about not letting the fear of failure GET IN THE WAY. This whole concept really speaks to me…I mean, I was TERRIFIED of moving to CA (literally, my mom had to pull over on the drive to the airport so I could puke even though my boyfriend was living here so I wasn’t totally on my own). But I did it anyway, and now my day-to-day life consists of checking out Sarah Silverman in comedy shows and getting spa treatments so I can write about them for work. I just feel so blessed sometimes, which is such a better feeling to focus on rather than the stress and weightiness of every issue that I sometimes feel. It makes me happy to know that I have the power and determination to go out and do things when I put my mind to it.

I feel lucky to have this new passion for the blog as well, and thank all of you for making that true every day!! Ah, cue sappy music 🙂

Happy almost Thursday everyone!

Friday morning…do I even have to tell you??

At lunch, I had another big salad with light balsamic vinaigrette to fill me up.

I also had a Lean Cuisine veggie pizza. These are small but good!

Yesterday was payday, aka coffee day! I had to get another Coffee Bean light ice blended after my first of the season last weekend. Love these 🙂

After work, Julia & I got girlified and ready to go out. We split a glass of wine before getting to the bar. Yup, plastic cups all the way.

We walked over to The Village Idiot for dinner and drinks. We were planning to sit at the bar but it was totally packed! The host liked us though and split a four top so that we could sit down for din. I got a Riesling with my meal!

Since we had never eaten here before, we decided to order a few things to share. We started with a really delicious spicy rock shrimp soup. Sorry about the blurry photo!

We also ordered the veggie pie, which had an amazing flaky crust.

And lots of spinach and artichokes inside! MMM!

We also ordered a nice piece of chicken that came with some onions and greens.

And an awesome dish of broccoli on the side!

The guy sitting at the table next to us grabbed my camera at one point and snapped a pic as we were pondering the dessert menu. Cheese!

Since we were out celebrating (Julia signed a new manager!! And we are all-around awesome of course), we ended up passing on dessert and ordered some champagne instead. Luckily, our bill came with four little lemon shortbread bites!

After dinner, we moved over to the bar. More picture taking ensued, surprise surprise.

And we shared a glass of Malbec with our new bar friends from Australia and the Czech Republic. These two were so funny!

After The Village Idiot, we ended up at a bar game night. I haven’t played card drinking games in forever! I had about half a vodka soda while playing. Yes, I was slowly sipping LOL.

When I got home, some cereal was a must! I know I said I wasn’t going to eat this at night anymore but I was actually really hungry. I had two of these bowls before falling into dreamland.

I have so much to get done today! Tonight is Becky’s birthday party and there are a million and one little errands I want to do before that. Right now I am still in my PJs watching TV sooo we shall see what happens with that. So glad it’s Saturday 🙂
